Researchers at Eindhoven University of Technology have successfully adapted Xolography, a novel light-based 3D printing technique, to create living tissue. This innovative approach uses intersecting light beams to solidify a liquid containing cells, achieving resolutions down to the size of a human cell. The precise control over light intensity allows for the creation of structures with varying stiffness and the development of 4D-printed materials that can change over time, such as artificial muscles. While primarily a research tool currently, this advancement in tissue engineering holds future potential for creating complex biological models and, speculatively, functional organs.
