Lean manufacturing is a methodology for manufacturing that emphasizes the minimization of waste and the maximization of efficiency. It is based on the Toyota Production System, which Taiichi Ohno developed at Toyota in the 1930s and 1940s. Lean manufacturing aims to eliminate waste in all forms, including overproduction, waiting, excess inventory, unnecessary motion, overprocessing, and defects. The goal is to create a "lean" manufacturing process that is fast, efficient, and flexible, delivering high-quality products at low cost. Lean manufacturing techniques include Value Stream Mapping, Kanban, and Total Productive Maintenance, among others.
